Ayaş, Bala, Beypazari, Bar, Haymana, Kalecik, Redcahamam and Nallıhan are among the districts that have been established before the Republic and played an important role in the agriculture, trade and cultural life of Ankara. These regions were decisive in shaping rural and historical identity of the capital.
After the announcement of the capital of Ankara, the city grew rapidly and new districts were established. Çankaya has become one of the most crowded districts in Turkey today by winning district status in 1936. Yenimahalle in 1957, Keçiören, Mamak, Xinjiang and Gölbaşı became district in 1983 with administrative regulations. In 1990, the Herowin received its district status in 1987 and received its name today in 2016.
Ankara districts Pursaklar, the newest amongst, gained district status in 2008. Pursaklar, which attracts attention with its rapid structure and increased population, has become one of the districts that represent the developing and modern face of Ankara in a short time.
